Senator Bill Nelson talks about 9/11

Senator Bill Nelson:

It was President Kennedy who once said, “A nation reveals itself not only by the men it produces but also by the men it honors, the men it remembers.” It is fitting then that this weekend – in public and private remembrances across Florida – many of you will pause to reflect and honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Here are some events planned in cities around our state: Miami-Fort LauderdalePalm BeachFort Myers-NaplesSarasota-BradentonTampa-St. PetersburgOrlando-Melbourne-Daytona BeachGainesville;JacksonvilleTallahasseePanama City; and, Pensacola.

I took some time as well to write down my thoughts for an op-ed in the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

I hope all those who lost loved ones, those who survived, and the many brave people who were part of the rescue and recovery efforts, and the war against terrorism find comfort on this day of remembrance.

I hope, too, that we all can recall the unity and compassion we felt for each other in the weeks and months following Sept. 11.
