Orange County Schools Superintendent Barbara Jenkins is a leading candidate to be chosen by Gov. Rick Scottas Florida’s next lieutenant governor, reports the Orlando Sentinel.
Neither Jenkins nor Scott would comment Tuesday. But sources told the Orlando Sentinel she was on his short list. And Tuesday night, Orange County School Board Chairman Bill Sublette said he was aware that Jenkins was interested in the lieutenant governor’s job.
Sublette said he and other school board members already had discussed the possibility of losing Jenkins to the lieutenant governor’s office.
“I think it’s exciting, and I think she’d be a tremendous lieutenant governor,” said Sublette. “I think it’d be a tremendous tribute to OCPS.”
Jenkins, asked about the post at Tuesday night’s school board meeting, said, “I can’t talk about it.”
