Now that the 2014 legislative session is over, former State Rep. Shawn Harrison continues to pull further ahead in contributions against Democrat incumbent Rep. Mark Danish in the effort to regain the State House District 63 seat.

“In May, we saw an incredible surge in fundraising over the incumbent,” Harrison announced in a statement issued Tuesday, “as we once again exceeded our $10,000 goal while the incumbent barely raised $2000.”

Shawn Harrison lost to Danish in 2012 after serving a single term in the House.

“The campaign totals are now $98,000 to $68,000,” he continued, “a $30,000 cushion for Team Harrison.”

According to filings with the Florida Division of Elections, Shawn Harrison raised $10,056 in May, for a total of $96,466. After spending $55,943, he is left with $40,523 on hand. Although Danish raised only $2,125 last month, for a total of $68,862, he spent $17,583 overall, for a total cash on hand of nearly $51,300. Danish also received $15,635 in-kind donations from the Florida Democratic Party last month.

Harrison also announced two scheduled meet and greet events, including one in downtown Tampa, a “fun-raiser” Happy Hour hosted by the Florida Alliance for HomeCare Service on Tuesday, June 24. That event begins 5 p.m. at the Fly Bar rooftop, 1202 N. Franklin Street in Tampa.

Another is a joint fundraiser with fellow Republican Danny Burgess on Wednesday, June 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the home of Bill and Joyce Hepscher, 10708 Cory Lake Drive in Tampa. Burgess, currently serving as mayor of Zephyrhills, is running to succeed term-limited House Speaker Will Weatherford in House District 38.
