Shawna Vercher, the Democratic candidate for Florida House District 67, received the endorsement of Florida NOW (National Organization for Women), the leading women’s organization in the state.
Vercher faces Republican Chris Latvala, the son of state Sen. Jack Latvala, to replace term-limited Rep. Ed Hooper to represent portions of Clearwater and Largo. Since announcing her candidacy in late March, Vercher garnered significant media attention.
“Florida NOW is happy that a woman of Shawna’s caliber is running in District 67,” said Florida NOW President Donna Slutiak. “It is clear that the Florida legislature needs many more progressive women in the halls and seat of power.”
Shawna Vercher responded by saying how significant the NOW endorsement is to her campaign.
“I know just how complicated the problems facing our state can be,” she said. “With NOW’s support, I know that we can reach even more people with the important message that women need to be at the table when solutions to our problems are discussed.”
