St. Petersburg banker Barclay Harless has received the endorsement of the Suncoast Sierra Club.

The support comes as a welcome boost to Harless’ bid to win the City Council District 2 race in November.

“We are proud to endorse Barclay Harless, an environmental advocate with a strong knowledge of how environmental issues impact our local lifestyles and economy,” said Dan Huber, Sierra Club spokesperson. “We are confident that his commitment to sustainability will be a positive force in the growth, resiliency, and vitality of our community for years to come.”

Harless faces Realtor Brandi Gabbard for the District 2 seat currently occupied by Jim Kennedy, who must leave the seat later this year due to term limits.

“His primary campaign initiatives include improved city infrastructure and early childhood education, crime reduction, affordable housing, financial literacy, and creating a sustainable future for the city of St. Petersburg,” added Huber. “Barclay Harless is a progressive thinker, committed to ensuring the health and well-being of our community, and deserves to be elected to the City Council.”

Gabbard has consistently led Harless in polls conducted by St. Pete Polls. The Harless campaign disputes the accuracy of those surveys, claiming their own internal survey shows the race to be in a virtual tie.
