Verizon is sponsoring a Smart Cities seminar in Tampa this Friday. The “Internet of Things” smart seminar will be at the Tampa Marriott Westshore Friday from 8:30 a.m. until noon.
The seminar aims to demonstrate how increased technology can make a positive impact on the future of the Tampa Bay area by increasing economic growth through sustainability, enhancing safety and security and improving operational efficiencies.
The seminar is geared toward those working for federal, state and local public agencies, public or private colleges and universities, large corporations with “campus environments” and large businesses like stadiums or shopping centers.
The event kicks off at 8:30 a.m. with registration and refreshments. Guests will hear various presentations at 9:00 with a series of round table discussions to follow. The event will also include an expo with vendors.
Daniel Burrus, a futurist, technology strategist and trends forcaster is the keynote speaker for the event.
Burrus is a New York Times bestselling author of the book Flash Foresight: How to see the invisible and do the impossible. He’s also a blogger, guest speaker and consultant.
He’s worked with corporate giants like IBM and Deloitte to plan and shape futures. Burrus has also worked with Homeland Security and numerous large cities all over the world.
Also speaking at the event is former Tampa City Attorney Jim Shimberg. He now serves as the executive vice president and general counsel of Tampa Bay Sports and Entertainment. That group includes the Tampa Bay Lightning, Storm and Amalie Arena. Shimberg also serves as the Chief Operating Officer for Jeff Vinik’s real estate company, Strategic Property Partners.
“Solution providers” available at the seminar include Auto Share, Cloud and NetworkFleet. Other participating providers include Alcatel-Lucent, Smart City Media, red lion and several others.
