So … does Rick Scott stand behind Tony Bennett?

Does Gov. Rick Scott stand behind embattled Education Commissioner Tony Bennett? Depends who you ask.  Bennett says he has the Governor’s full backing.  Gov. Scott says, “Umm, what? Not sure what story you’re talking about.”

Specifically, according to the AP’s Gary Fineout’s Twitter feed, Gov. Scott told reporters that he had not seen the stories about Bennett and to call the Department of Education.

Believe Scott or not that he hadn’t heard reports that Florida’s schools chief had allegedly manipulated school grades when serving in this role in Indiana to spare one particular charter school owned by a prominent Republican donor, it is certainly the kind of story that you’d expect the Governor’s staff to inform him about.  The story had well circulated by the time Scott was asked, signaling that our main man is either out of touch or failing to assume leadership in what would seem to be a fairly obvious time to do so.
