So nice of Marco Rubio to finally endorse Lenny Curry for Florida GOP Chair

Hey, Marco, what took you so long?

If I’m Republican Party of Florida Chairman Lenny Curry, who is running for a second term as head of the state party, that’s what I’m wondering about my good friend Senator Marco Rubio: Why did it take him so long to publicly endorse Curry’s re-election? Why did it take until Wednesday — four days before the big vote — for Rubio, the state’s most important Republican, to signal his support for Curry?

And don’t try to blame Rubio’s tardiness on the ‘fiscal cliff’, either.

I guess Curry should be grateful that Rubio bothered to remember the poor folks back in Florida.

“Lenny has conducted himself as chairman in a way of which all Florida Republicans can be proud,” Rubio said, according to Matt Dixon of the Florida Times-Union. “As we look ahead to the challenges of 2014, Lenny is the right person to lead our party and I urge you to join me in giving him your support.”

Nice words, right? But do they matter much now? Every important Republican in the state, from Governor Rick Scott to the Okaloosa County Dog Catcher, has already jumped on board Curry’s bandwagon.

So I’m just not sure what Rubio’s endorsement does on the eve of the chairmanship vote this Saturday at the state GOP’s annual meeting in Orlando.
