Sound the damn alarms: Kathleen Ford nosing around St. Pete Chamber of Commerce; is she plotting comeback?

Light the beacons of Gondor, SHE has been spotted!

Kathleen Ford, former city councilwoman, mayoral candidate and lord lady of the city’s dark forces, made a surprising appearance today at a meeting of the Public Policy Council of the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce.

Sound the alarm bells, SHE who should not be named has re-emerged.

Now, the issue of whether the courthouse in St. Pete should re-locate out of the city was discussed at the meeting.  And Ford is a lawyer. So maybe she was making a rare appearance due to an interest in that situation.

Not likely.

Is it just coincidence that Ford appears at the St. Pete Chamber of Commerce during the same week Mayor Bill Foster suffers one of his most significant political setbacks — the shelving of his plan to build a new police headquarters? Hardly.

She’s sniffing around, make no mistake.

Is it possible, despite having lost twice before, for her to run once more for the office she has long sought?

Well, with Foster in the position he is in, but with no other candidates emerging to challenge him, it is possible for Ford to emerge as a credible alternative to Foster.

Except Foster, having fired Goliath Davis, will not have the black vote with him.  Nor will he have as much support in the business community or the police rank-and-file.

In other words, Foster is vulnerable.

And don’t think for a second Ford doesn’t realize that.
