Speaker Cannon allocates additional money, but still keeps $2.2 billion in reserve

Responding to requests from his budget chairmen, House Speaker Dean Cannon on Thursday added more than $76 million to proposed budgets for public schools, colleges and the courts while maintaining a $2.2 billion reserve fund, reports the News Service of Florida. In a memo to members, the Winter Park Republican said he and House Budget Committee Chairman Denise Grimsley, R-Lake Placid, withheld some general revenue from the initial allocation released earlier in the week to tweak spending plans after subcommittees had a chance to meet. The pair on Thursday allocated an additional $54.8 million for the state? Pre-K-12 system, $6.5 million for higher education and $15 million for the state? judicial system.
