St. Pete’s SPF 15 arts and culture celebration officially kicks off this evening at the Dali Musuem with a celebration beginning at 7 p.m.
Events will be occurring throughout the month of September at various spots around the city.
Already underway is the Shine Mural Festival showcasing more than 10 large wall murals being painted on buildings lining the streets of St. Pete. The festival continues through September 12.
Muralists and murals are located at 14 locations across the city including four spots in the Grand Central District, six in the Edge District and the State Theater. A map of those locations is on the Shine website.
SPF stands for “St. Petersburg Festival.” The 15 represents the year. It’s a play on sunscreen protection in a city dubbed the “Sunshine City.”
There are three events scheduled at Studio @ 620 including “Take Me Home” September 11-13 and the 18th and 19th and the Play Reading Series on Thursday, September 17.
There’s a Celebrate Sinatra event on September 26th at 8 p.m. at One Progress Plaza on First Avenue South. That event is 21 and up.
Other events include the Solstice Street Festival, a “Green Bench Conversation: The Impact of the Arts on St. Petersburg,” musical celebrations, an international curry festival, a fashion week and a food and wine festival.
Many of the events are free and open to the public. Some require paid admission and most events offer goods or services that can be purchased.
The events are being showcased through the Suncoasters of St. Petersburg. That group aims to highlight St. Pete as a must-see destination for visitors and a good place to call home for those looking to relocate from other cities.
A complete rundown of the dozens and dozens of events scheduled throughout the month is on the SPF 15 website.
