The West Central Florida Federation of Labor has unanimously endorsed Charlie Gerdes for St. Petersburg’s City Council, District 1, the labor group announced Monday.

Encompassing 12 counties, the West Central Florida Federation of Labor boasts over 100,000 members from 120 AFL-CIO-affiliated unions, representing workers and retirees in a broad range of trades and professions, including industries such as agriculture, construction, education, health care, food service, hospitality and law enforcement.

This endorsement follows a strong July for the campaign, including an endorsement from one-time political opponent Florida State House Representative Rick Kriseman (D-53) and a campaign finance report showing Gerdes’ fundraising well ahead of his two primary opponents’.

“I believe Labor’s endorsement of my campaign shows their confidence that I mean what I say—that I will stand with the people, put the concerns of everyday St. Pete residents first, and always fight for the voices of everyone to be heard,” Gerdes said.
