Green Bench Brewing, one of the newest craft beer houses in St. Petersburg, was named one of the top ten breweries in July for the 2014 U.S. Open Beer Championship.
Located in the city’s booming Edge District, Green Bench received two Gold and a Bronze medal earlier this month.
Brewers worldwide submitted more than 3,000 beers and ciders in 81 different categories in the only brewery competition to include both professional breweries and award-winning home-brewers.
The Saison de Banc Vert won gold medal in the Barrel Aged Wood / Barrel Aged Pale Beer category, as did the French Oak Rye Sour Brown for a Wood/Barrel-Aged Sour Beer. Spring Bloom IIPA: Jerry’s Birthday Batch won the bronze for Experimental Beer.
Massachusetts-based Wormtown Brewing won top honors as the best brewer in 2014, while Green Bench tied for ninth. Tampa’s Cigar City Brewing was also recognized for its Cubano Espresso coffee beer, Cigar City Cider Homemade Apple Pie cider and Zhukov’s Imperial Stout.
