Newly re-elected state Rep. Eric Eisnaugle announced today he is endorsing his former colleague Shawn Harrison in his quest to reclaim State House District 63.
The Tampa Republican faces incumbent Democrat Rep. Mark Danish in the district representing parts of north Hillsborough County. Harrison lost to Danish in 2012 after serving a single term in the House.
For two terms, Eisnaugle, an attorney from Orlando, represented House District 40, but chose not to run for a third term in 2012 when redistricting put him into House District 44, the same seat at former Rep. Steve Precourt. After Precourt’s resignation in January, Eisnaugle won the April 8 special election. HD 44 covers much of Orange County.
“I served with Representative Harrison for two years in the State House,” Eisnaugle said in a statement. “As Chairman of the Civil Justice subcommittee I was impressed with Shawn’s legal skills and his commitment to his constituents.
“The people of Northern Hillsborough need a Representative who can get things done for his constituents. I am proud to endorse his return to the Florida House of Representatives.”
Harrison responded by calling Eisnaugle an “excellent Chairman and a skilled attorney.”
“He is dedicated to conservative pro-business policies and his experience and legal abilities serve his district well,” he added.
Eisnaugle joins the growing list of Harrison’s GOP supporters, which include Hillsborough County Commissioners Victor Crist, Sandy Murman, and Mark Sharpe, Hillsborough State Attorney Mark Ober, former Councilwoman Mary Alvarez and past Tampa Mayor Dick Greco, as well as State Rep. Dana Young and Sens. Bill Galvano and John Legg.
