State Rep. Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda joined Sen. John Thresher to become the second person interested in the position as president of Florida State University.
Rehwinkel Vasilinda, who has been a faculty member at Tallahassee Community College for almost 25 years, entered her name for consideration FSU president. As noted in her cover letter, the school needs a leader that “enjoyed working with present members of FSU’s leadership team, faculty and other university stakeholders.”
Rehwinkel Vasilinda, a Tallahassee Democrat, submitted the letter to search committee consultant Bill Funk after the group decided Wednesday to interview only influential Sen. John Thrasher — a former House speaker and major FSU booster— for the job.
Funk said the “irregular” step was necessary because Thrasher’s interest in the job was preventing other qualified candidates from applying. Thrasher also serves as chair of Gov. Rick Scott’s re-election campaign.
