A good end for what has been a rough week for Bill McCollum as the Florida State Firefighters Association endorsed his gubernatorial campaign, Kevin Derby reports.
McCollum’s status as Republican front-runner in the race was upended when a poll came out showing his chief rival, health care executive Rick Scott, was ahead by 13 points. McCollum’s lawsuit against the federal government over new health care laws backed by President Barack Obama suffered a blow when Gov. Charlie Crist vetoed a measure, HB 1143, on abortion matters.
“Bill McCollum is the most qualified candidate running for governor and the Florida State Firefighters Association is proud to offer our support for his campaign,” said President Steve Robertson from the association. “As attorney general, Bill McCollum has made listening to firefighters a priority and we look forward to his continued support as governor.”
“Florida is home to the finest firefighters in the nation and it gives me great pleasure to have the support of their largest association,” said McCollum. “From Florida’s rural communities to our sprawling cities, these men and women courageously put their lives on the line every day.”
