Steve Cona III named new leader of Gulf Coast's Builders and Contractors association

The Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors announced the promotion of Steve Cona III to President/CEO effective January 1, 2013. Steve Cona III joined the association in 2007 from Syniverse Technologies; he has served as the chapter’s Chief Operating Officer and Marketing/Communications Director.

Steve Cona III will succeed Steve Cona Jr., who will become the chapter’s Senior Vice-President after a successful 27 year career serving the association.

“Steve Cona III’s proven leadership and dedication is aligned with our board’s commitment to champion a positive business and economic environment for our member contractors to prosper,” said Mary Layton (EMJAY Constructors) ABC’s 2013 Chairman of the Board. “His experience, enthusiasm, and respect for our chapter’s history, will help guide the growth of our association.”

“I am honored and privileged to be appointed President/CEO of ABC,” said Cona III. “I look forward to expanding upon the great work accomplished by Steve Cona Jr. and all of the great volunteer leaders of this association.”

Steve Cona Jr. joined Associated Builders and Contractors in 1980 as a part-time carpentry instructor. He was promoted to Director of Education in 1985 and then became the President/CEO in 1989. “Steve Cona, Jr. has earned the respect of his peers and has worked harder than any President of any association of which I have been a member.” said Ron Cox (Cox Fire Protection) ABC’s 2012 Chairman of Board. “We thank Steve Jr. for his vision and dedication to Associated Builders and Contractors,” said Cox. “He has been a transformational leader with a passion for this industry.”
