Steve Schale jumps aboard Kendrick Meek express

Steve Schale, the Obama campaign’s Florida director and one of the few Democratic operatives worth a damn, announced this morning directly to the blogosphere his support of Kendrick Meek for the US Senate:

Dear Kenneth,

Last year, I had the great honor of leading the Obama campaign here in Florida. For five months, I had the greatest job in the land working with what I believe was the most amazing organization of volunteers ever assembled.

But as rewarding as it was to see Florida’s 27 electoral votes go to Barack Obama, I knew that we had only taken the first step on the long road to change, especially here in Florida.

The State of our State is not good. Ten percent of our fellow residents are unemployed, some four million of our neighbors lack basic health insurance and some forty percent of our high school students will never get a diploma. While we live in a state whose potential is limitless, we have a Governor who seems to be satisfied with our current state of affairs, unwilling to lead our state towards greatness. Now he wants to represent us in the United States Senate.

My friends, we deserve better.

Kendrick Meek has what it takes to help lead our state towards a better tomorrow. He helped the President pass the recovery act, protecting jobs here in Florida. He’s fought to expand health insurance to every child in America and he’s been a leader for our public school kids. His values are Florida’s values and in him, we will have a Senator who will fight every day for the core principles that you and I hold dear.

Kendrick knows that it was your blood, sweat and tears that delivered Florida for President Obama, and he knows that it is the collective efforts of everyday people who will send him to Washington and help deliver change up and down the ballot in 2010. That is why Kendrick is working to build a grassroots movement to place his name on the ballot by petition, one that can eventually take our message of change door to door in every corner of our state.

But he can’t do it alone. And here’s where I need your help.

Please join the effort to help his petition drive – go to www.kendrickmeek.com to sign up to help. There you can even download your own petition and print it for yourself, friends, and neighbors. Please sign up to help today. Change can’t happen without you.

Thank you again for everything you did to win Florida and send Barack Obama to the White House. Now let’s get to work to make sure he has a partner in the Senate who will help him fulfill our collective dreams for our nation’s future.

Sincerely,

Steve Schale
Florida State Director
Obama for America, 2008

P.S. While visiting Kendrick’s campaign site you can also build your own profile and fundraising page, find the next event in your area, and help put Kendrick on the ballot by having your friends, family and co-workers sign our petition.
