Bills to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity would boost Florida’s economic output by more than $5 billion over the next 10 years according to a study touted by Florida Competes. The anti-discrimination advocacy group pointed to the study as part of their push for bills banning discrimination against LGBT individuals. A controversial bill that shields clergy members who refuse to perform gay marriages is now law. The so-called pastor protection act was one of more than two dozen bills Gov. Rick Scott signed into law Thursday. Rep. Scott Plakon, the House sponsor, said earlier this month the proposal offered protections to pastors that have concerns about gay marriage.
