Alabama swamps Florida in SEC Championship game

in Sports/Top Headlines by

The University of Alabama defense was too good for Florida quarterback Austin Appleby to overcome Saturday afternoon. Appleby threw for 261 yards and two touchdowns against the Tide, but he also threw three interceptions and the Tide rolled over the Gators, 54-16, Saturday. The Tide, the only major unbeaten team in the country, outscored Florida 21-0 in the second half to pull away. On this night, it is hard to believe that Florida’s greatest quarterbacks — Steve Spurrier, Danny Wuerffel…

Two years in, two championship games, and the Help Wanted sign remains out. Now, more than ever, the University of Florida needs a quarterback. With the Gators playing in the SEC Championship game Saturday afternoon, the Gators’ weakest position stands out the most. Who is there to guide the Gators toward the end zone? His South Carolina Gamecocks gained only 256 yards in a 20-7 loss to the Gators. Florida, despite two fumbles and an interception, built a quick lead and won comfortably. The Gators are now 7-2 and in the lead of the SEC East. They can…

Freshmen Feleipe Franks and Kyle Trask could see playing time. Florida coach Jim McElwain said he was planning to evaluate the quarterback position even before Del Rio’s injury. Del Rio…
