Tropical Storm Colin forms in Gulf of Mexico

The latest on severe weather across the United States (all times local): 6 p.m. The National Hurricane Center says that Tropical Storm Colin has formed in the Gulf of Mexico and is predicted to land in Florida. Forecasters upgraded the storm from a tropical depression to a tropical storm just before 6 p.m. Sunday. That means Colin has sustained winds of at least 39 mph. Three Florida cities, including St. Petersburg and Orlando, earned perfect scores in enacting policies to protect gay, lesbian and transgendered citizens from discrimination. New TaxWatch internship program honors Ken Plante

Florida TaxWatch says it’s launching a research internship program for college students, who will assist on projects from “taxation and budgets to education and corrections.” The nonprofit watchdog, based in Tallahassee, received a $25,000 contribution from AT&T to pay stipends to those who are accepted into the program.
