5 things I think about today’s St. Petersburg Times (6/14)

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

Monday’s St. Petersburg Times reminds me why I relented and signed up for a subscription. Of course, the horrifying stories of the Church of Scientology urging women to have abortions is must-read. But so is Tom Jones’ Shooting from the Lip coverage of a weekend of televised sports. What’s not must-read: Ernest Hooper’s Monday column continues to disappoint.  It’s not that Hooper writes anything provoking or ridiculous.  It’s that, with the real-estate granted to Hooper, his column should just explode…

BP’s values don’t match its actions

in Peter by

One of the most exciting aspects of running this website is hearing from a diversity of voices from the community, whether it be in the increasingly active comments section or via an anonymous e-mail (that’s how I get some of my best tips).  One such voice reached out to me last month.  He calls himself Henry Boxlor, an obvious play on the name of the St. Petersburg Times’ columnist.  After several e-mails back and forth, I met with “Henry” and…

As I’ve said before,…

In the wake of the police raid on the Bottoms to the Top club, one thing is clear: Bill Foster sure is a sanctimonious SOB

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

What a sanctimonious son-of-a-bitch! Damn right I am talking about Bill Foster, who has so little to show for his five months on the job that he found it necessary to stand outside the Bottom to the Top club on Friday, as it was being raided by the police. With arms crossed in righteous indignation, Foster is reported to have said: “That is a nasty place inside. Nothing good happens inside those walls. Quite frankly, these places aren’t welcome in St.…
