Tampa Bay legislators’ fundraising

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Not much to report for the incumbents…no one has done any damage yet in the race to replace Kevin Ambler in H-47…perhaps Peter Nehr will have problems with Tom McKone in H-48, but other than that it’s standard fare for Pinellas legislators. Here are their fundraising numbers to date: H-48 Peter Nehr raised $13,900 with $12,581 left on hand Tom McKone raised $5,071 with $3,533 left on hand H-49: Darren Soto raised $4,600 with $3,850 left on hand H-50: Ed…

Why did Democrat Janet Long go to Jack Latvala’s campaign kick-off?

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Evidently, more than 250 people stopped by Jack Latvala’s campaign kick-off at Ruth Eckerd Hall. Certainly, many of those who attended did so out of fear, rather than enthusiasm for Jack’s campaign. Maybe that explains why Democrat Janet Long was one of those who went to wish Jack well in his effort to put a Democratic seat back in the GOP’s column. Alright, I won’t run for H-52

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Since first beginning to explore the possibility of campaigning to represent the people of the 52nd District in the House of Representative, I have been humbled by the support and encouragement I received from across Pinellas County, and indeed, beyond. If Bill Heller runs for Senate, Frank Farkas runs for H-52

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Walking door-to-door for Jamie Bennett, I ran into my ol’ friend Frank Farkas. Talked him up about running again, and Frank said, if Bill Heller, as expected, runs for the state Senate and vacates his House seat, Farkas would run again to retake his old seat. Good for you, Frank, although you’re pretty much a liberal by today’s standards in Tallahassee.

Charlie Justice’s bold move

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Well, Charlie Justice set off quite a roogoodoo yesterday when he announced he is running against Bill Young in 2010. I give Charlie all the credit in the world for stepping up to challenge Young. I was just so sick and tired of the annual Will-Bill-Young-retire parlor game. Charlie’s announcement doesn’t end that, but the writing is on the wall for Young, who, despite being chair of the defense appropriations subcommittee, is still a Republican vote in the House. Can…

Where are the candidates for City Council?

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Around St. Petersburg’s City Hall, you can’t step over a homeless person without bumping into someone running for Mayor. With Larry Williams throwing his hat in the ring last week, there are currently nine people hoping to replace Rick Baker. Being a candidate for mayor is the only job sector in town that’s a growth industry. Where then are all the candidates for St. Petersburg City Council? There are five seats up for grabs this year, and currently there are…
