Conservative commentator Chris Ingram has penned his last column for the Tampa Bay Times. Ingram announced on his Irreverent View blog that his most recent submission to the paper — a sharply worded takedown of Hillary Clinton’s behavior in relation to Bill Clinton’s checkered sexual history — was rejected by the Times’ editor of editorials, Tim Nickens, earlier this month. Nickens informed Ingram the piece “does not fit in tone or substance.” Now Ingram says he’s done writing for the only daily newspaper publishing in the Tampa Bay region.…

It must be really, really hard working as an editorial writer for the St. Petersburg Times. Imagine the difficult of having to collaborate with five or six other people (none of whom are African-American, by the way, for those of you keeping score at home. The Times makes such a big deal about diversity, yet it’s own editorial board is lily white now that Bill Maxwell has retired) to pen not just one, but two, sometimes three editorials. Three editorials! That’s like,…

It must be very difficult to be the Editor of Editorials at the St. Petersburg Times. I mean, you are in charge of the section of the newspaper viewed by the least amount of readers, yet pandered to by almost every politician. And you have to deal with Robyn Blumner on a daily basis. At least Bill Maxwell isn’t around anymore to bother you about the plight of migrant workers. So why is Tim Nickens being such a pussy about…

I just added home delivery of The New York Times, so it takes me about two days to get through both newspapers, which means I am still catching up on yesterday’s mammoth Sunday edition of the NYT. But here’s what I think of today’s paper (shorter version because of DMB week). 1. Few newspapers use color as well as the St. Petersburg Times. I always read the USA Today on Mondays to get a complete read on the sports world,…

My brief post on Wednesday about Bill Maxwell retiring turned out to be spot-on. I spoke with Bill several times when he dined at Parkshore Grill and found him to be a true gentleman. However, I don’t know if I will miss his writing much, as it has become…
