However, that doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed to go before voters next year to pay for a series of transportation improvements. That’s because County Commissioner Al Higginbotham acknowledged after the meeting that he won’t support putting the measure on the ballot. That means it could come down…

I received a text message last night informing me that the Tampa Bay Sierra Club had embraced Hillsborough County Commission ChairĀ Sandy Murman‘s late-hour plan to fund transportation projects – which sounds like a larger sized version of what the Club called for back this past summer. You remember, the Club called for the county to began raising mobility fees and the gas tax, saying it would be a good start to raising funds for the county’s myriad transportation needs. I’ve…

E.J. Otero blasts Hillsborough Commissioners for supporting Cuban consulate in Tampa

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Much of the Tampa Bay area business and political establishment is all in with having a Cuban consulate established in Tampa, so when the Hillsborough County Commission approved the idea recently, there was little resistance stated by any board members or members of the public. Since then, though,Ā  two prominent Hillsborough Republicans – Danny Alvarez and now E.J. Otero – have slammed the board for its endorsement. Alvarez expressed his disavowal last week in an op-ed published in The Tampa…
