Bucs announce regular season roster

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced their 53-player roster on Saturday. There were no major surprises, but a few disappointments. Among the most disappointing, but expected, cuts was 2017 fifth-round selection Jeremy McNichols. The Bucs thought the former Boise State star had a chance to develop into a running threat like Doug Martin or Miami’s Jay Ajayi, both former Boise State standouts.

Draft picks and dreamers gather for NFL mini-camps

NFL teams are in the process of getting their first look at their draft choices, undrafted free agents, and others just looking for a chance. Rookie mini-camps are underway around the league, representing the very first taste of life in the NFL for a few, and the only taste for most. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins held their mini-camps last weekend. On Friday the Jacksonville Jaguars begin theirs. While many, but not all, of the teams’ draft picks…

Wake Forest won the game on paper; FSU on the scoreboard

Mark Twain is often credited with saying there are three kinds of lies: lies, damn lies and statistics. Under those criteria, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons beat Florida State on Saturday. The scoreboard, however, provided the truth. Florida State 24, Wake  Forest 16. Wake Forest had the Florida State defense on the field for 60 percent of the game. The Deacons held the ball for 36 minutes to 24 for the Seminoles. They ran 79 plays to 52 for FSU.…

USF had its chances against FSU

Florida State Coach Jimbo Fisher could not have been happy at halftime of FSU’s game with the South Florida Bulls. They were being outplayed by USF. The Seminoles went on to win the game, 34-14, but they were fortunate to enter the locker room at the half tied with the Bulls at 7-7. USF’s defensive line controlled the line of scrimmage in the first half except for one 76-yard burst by Dalvin Cook. Florida State Quarterback Everett Golson completed one pass.…
