in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Fundraising numbers for Hillsborough County District 6 Democratic primary candidates Brian Willis and Pat Kemp for the month of June were reported on Friday night, and the news here is that Kemp has contributed $25,000 to her campaign. Willis got a head start over Kemp in terms of fundraising, beginning to actively campaign starting in April. While Kemp has been a candidate since that time, she deliberately said she would not begin fundraising until June. The numbers are now in for June,…

Mitch Perry Report for 7.7.15 — Last call for change with Hillsborough County Board size?

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

The Hillsborough County Charter Review Board meets again tonight at 6 p.m. at the County Center, where advocates for a several years-long push to expand or change the configuration of the seven-member Board of County Commissioners will have one last chance to persuade the majority that such a change is needed. The odds are stacked against them. The purveyors of status quo, none more prominent than former County Commissioner and now Charter Board member herself Jan Platt, remains fixated on keeping…

As first reported by the Tampa Tribune’s Mike Salinero, Merrill will propose that commissioners put a half-cent sales transit tax on the 2016 ballot, but with only 30 percent of those funds being allocated to mass transit. Sixty percent would be for building and rebuilding…

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Mark Danish is entering a new phase of his life. The native New Yorker and lifelong school teacher stunned the local political world at the age of 58 back in 2012 when he upset Shawn Harrison in the House District 63 race. He only made it through one term, however, as Harrison won back the seat in another GOP tsunami in Florida last year. Danish has left his Hillsborough County middle school position, and has now transitioned to selling real estate.…

in 2017/The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Marco Rubio is being lauded in some quarters this morning for the way he handled the inevitable question on Iraq that was posed by Charlie Rose at the Council on Foreign Relations on Wednesday afternoon. “Not only would I not have been in favor of it, President Bush would not have been in favor of it,” Rubio said. Well, that takes care of that, right? “Marco Rubio Schools Jeb Bush on Foreign Policy,” says the Daily Beast. Except, that isn’t what…
