Gulfport challengers wind up campaigns with far more money than incumbents

Gulfport candidates turned in their last campaign finance reports Friday before Tuesday’s election. As has been the case throughout the campaigns, challengers ended the fundraising battle far ahead of incumbents. Barbara Banno, who is challenging Mayor Sam Henderson, raised more than $27,000 as of March 10. That total includes nearly $3,000 raised between February 27 and March 10. Charlie Justice begins to close fundraising gap in race against Mike Mikurak

February fundraising in the only competitive Pinellas County Commission race was fairly lackluster. Incumbent, Charlie Justice, took a first step in closing the gap between him and his challenger, Mike Mikurak. With $4,225 coming in during the month, Justice outraised Mikurak by nearly double this report. Mikurak raised $2,695. Barbara Banno continues to out-raise incumbent Gulfport Mayor Sam Henderson

Barbara Banno has so far outraised incumbent Gulfport Mayor Sam Henderson by about double in her bid to unseat him. Banno has raised more than $22,000 as of February 26th while Henderson has brought in just over $11,000. Despite the fundraising lead though, both candidates are left with about $6,000 in the bank with less than two weeks to go before the March 15th election. Chris Alahouzos continues to grow fundraising gap in Tarpon Springs mayoral election

Chris Alahouzos has raised more than $28,000 for his Tarpon Springs mayoral bid. His opponent, Frank DiDonato has brought in less than $4,000. DiDonato didn’t raise a dime from February 1st through the 12th and during the month of January he only raised $50. DiDonato is a chiropractor and former Mayor serving from 1998 until 2004 and as a City Commissioner from 1991 until 1994. Keith Sabiel is self-funding mayoral challenge in Pinellas Park

Sandra Bradbury is outraising her challenger for re-election as Mayor of Pinellas Park … sort of. Bradbury has raised more than $7,600 as of February 12. Her opponent, Keith Sabiel, has brought in more than $10,000. But he didn’t raise it. Sabiel is self-funding his mayoral bid. Campaign finance reports show that during the month of January, Sabiel loaned himself $4,500. Then between February 1st and February 12th Sabiel loaned his campaign another $5,500. April Thanos grows fundraising gap over Dan Liedtke

April Thanos is taking her bid for Gulfport City Council serious. The political newcomer loaned herself $3,000 in her bid to unseat incumbent Ward 1 councilman Dan Liedtke. On top of that loan, Thanos brought in $2,746 in contributions from a combination of Pinellas County residents, Gulfport residents and out-of-towners. Gulfport mayoral candidate Barbara Banno is leading the fundraising battle against incumbent Sam Henderson, but he won the latest battle.
