Bob Hackworth loses ANOTHER campaign manager

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

At some point, this all becomes a joke. Bob Hackworth has gone and lost another campaign manager.  This time it’s the charming, enthusiastic Shari Hazlett, who has decided to part ways with the mercurial former mayor of Dunedin.  Hazlett was brought into replace Darden Rice, who, after having her own issues with Hackworth, resigned as campaign manager, err, I mean stepped back from her day-to-day responsibilities to serve as just a consultant to the campaign. This latest development is disappointing…

Kendrick Meek friend aiding Jeff Greene

in Statewide by

From the Buzz: When he first announced his campaign for U.S. Senate, Kendrick Meek said he expected one of his top advisers would be longtime friend Marcus Jadotte, a savvy Florida strategist who served as deputy campaign manager for John Kerry’s presidential campaign. Turned out Jadotte never did much on Meek’s campaign and, to hear virtually every Democratic operative in Florida tell it, is now expected to help the Jeff Greene U.S. Senate campaign. Ouch. There’s no confirmation of a deal reached, though. Jadotte…

Charlie Crist hires his sister to run statewide, multimillion-dollar U.S. Senate campaign

in Peter/Statewide by

From Eric Eikenberg to the candidate’s sister. That’s how far Charlie Crist’s campaign has traveled now that he’s told the St. Peterburg Times editorial board that he has named his sister, Margaret Wood, the interim campaign manager. She officially is called interim campaign manager, the governor said, but only to give her an opportunity to step down if she doesn’t like it. Doesn’t he need a seasoned pro? “No,” Crist said Thursday. “You know what you need? I’ve learned I’ve…

Bread and butter issues like taxes and the economy tend to work well.  A three-way race scrambles the conventional dynamics in ways that even a molecular gastronomist would appreciate. Do Democrat Kendrick Meek and Republican Marco Rubio try to run up their base percentages, trying to keep Crist from building a coalition, or do they try to appeal to the broad middle — even though the middle…

St. Pete Times editorial: Mayor Bill Foster’s errant pitch on sports

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Looks like the Times editorial board feels the same way I do about Bill Foster’s hiring of his campaign manager — and his poor choice of words defending the move. St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster’s effort to attract more sports events sounds like a good idea. But he started off on a sour note by hiring his campaign manager to lead the effort and offering an intemperate defense. “I don’t care if he’s my illegitimate son,” Foster said of former…

Charlie Justice qualifies for ballot by turning in petitions

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

From Mitch Perry: Pinellas County Democratic Congressional hopeful Charlie Justice is officially on the ballot in Florida’s 10th Congressional District election, as his campaign manager Mitch Kates today announced that he had qualified by petition by gathering more than 6,500 signatures (he was required to turn in 4,443) to the Supervisor of Elections office. In a press release, Justice said he was proud of the volunteers who helped get his name on the ballot. ” While my opponent ‘mailed in’…
