Proposal to limit outside money in St. Pete elections remains up for discussion

After hearing from legal experts, St. Petersburg council members agreed to a future discussion about a proposal that would limit donations from so-called super PACs in city elections. Most council members support the idea. Are endorsements helpful in state legislative races? Of course they are. When one candidate earns a majority of endorsements, like Charles Gerdes has in the Democratic Primary for House District 53, then that has to count for something. Often, though, the slate of endorsements are spread out among each of the candidates in a race. The Realtors endorsed this candidate, the PBA endorsed that candidate and so on. Last week I reported that Gerdes had won the AFL-CIO endorsement (The Buzz got this after I did and didn’t even give me credit. Tsk, tsk).
