Mitch Perry Report for 1.29.16 – Ted Cruz fails to rise to the occasion

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

On MSNBC Frtiday morning, mega-pundit Mark Halperin said of Thursday night’s GOP president debate: “Ted Cruz did fine, Marco Rubio did fine.” With all due respect, Mr. Halperin, that’s pure poppycock. Cruz was supposedly the Big Dog on stage, what with the “elephant not in the room.” He blew it, and probably any chance of winning Iowa (His principled stance against ethanol subsidies isn’t helping him there either). No Iowa, no nomination, it says in this column. In a new twist,…

Fox announces date, team for Iowa debate

in 2017/Top Headlines by

Fox News Channel says it will host the seventh Republican presidential debate, taking place next month in Des Moines, Iowa, ahead of that state’s caucuses. Fox said Monday that the two-hour debate on Jan. 28 will be anchored by Bret Baier, Megyn Kelly and Chris Wallace. That’s the same team that moderated the campaign’s first GOP debate in August, which drew a cable news record audience of 24 million people. The sixth debate will be shown on the Fox Business…

Mitch Perry Report for 8.7.15 — The morning after

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Last night was the most fun I can remember watching a political debate since Chris Matthews moderated the Charlie Crist-Jim Davis-Max Linn Florida gubernatorial debate in 2006. Anyone remember that? Let’s face it, if the same tough questions were asked by moderators at MSNBC, CNN, Univision or any of the major broadcast networks, the story of the morning (besides whatever Donald Trump did) from Republicans would be how unfair the liberal media was. As it stands, some conservatives on my Twitter…

Mitch Perry Report for 5.27.15 — Immigration and the GOP

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

If you’ve paid close attention to the content of much of the GOP presidential candidates’ (and soon-to-be candidates’) rhetoric this year, you hear a whole lot of Barack Obama bashing — mostly about his foreign policy moves, which they all say have made the world a more dangerous place. On immigration, they all read from the same script as well.  The first words from nearly all of them is “border security.” Even Jeb Bush and Lindsey Graham, who are notably…

On Fox News, Marco Rubio denies he’s flip-flopped on Iraq and immigration

in 2017/Top Headlines by

Although Jeb Bush was raked over the coals last week by the press for his meandering answers about whether it was appropriate to invade Iraq in 2003 in retrospect, less noted was how Marco Rubio appeared to flip-flop on his response to the same question. That’s why on Sunday Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace tried to pin the Florida Senator down on where he stands on the issue. It resulted in a furious and intense ping-pong style exchange for the next few moments.…

Fox News goes on the attack against Charlie Crist

in Peter/Statewide by

No sooner did Republican Charlie Crist decide to run for the U.S. Senate as an independent, rather than a Republican, than Fox News was ready to attack him. As far as I know, nobody has called Crist a radical socialist… yet. Nor, to my knowledge, has Crist shown up on Glenn Beck’s blackboard next to Chairman Mao. But the anti-Crist bias was as bright as Florida sunshine in Sean Hannity’s “report” on Crist’s decision and Chris Wallace’s “fair and balanced”…

Talking Points Memo: Marco Rubio’s Tea Party problem

in Statewide by

In the midst of Sunday’s heated Florida Republican Senate primary debate on Fox News Sunday, moderator Chris Wallace asked Marco Rubio a question that surprised many viewers up early on a Sunday to watch the festivities. Wallace read Rubio a viewer email. “‘Ask Marco Rubio why he refuses to be vetted by the Florida Tea Parties. I want to hear from Rubio or I will not vote for him,’” Wallace said. “We got this from a bunch of Tea Parties…
