One Gulfport precinct is out-voting rest of city

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

One Gulfport voting precinct is outperforming all the others in terms of early voter participation. More than 230 Gulfport voters had returned a mail ballot in Precinct 208 as of Wednesday afternoon. That’s more than any other Gulfport precinct by at least 150 depending on the precinct. The returned ballots represent total voter turnout of 9.52 percent in that precinct with a little over two weeks still left to return them. The disparity in turnout could be the potential result…

Rays decline offer from Rick Kriseman; will continue to negotiate to look

in Sports/Top Headlines by

In the end, the only surprise to the rejection of the new offer by the St. Petersburg council by the Tampa Bay Rays was that it took an hour-long meeting to say no. The lousy attendance you’ve heard so much about at Tropicana Field is getting worse. Any worse, and it will be able to split a box of Cracker Jack. After three straight years of last-place crowds, would you have thought it possible? The Trop is even more…

Stu Sternberg seems calm despite stadium delays, slow ticket sales

in Sports/The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

This day works. Just ask the man in the tan sports jacket walking around the infield. This day works, although so many days of baseball do not. This day works, although individual ticket sales are down, and season ticket sales are down, and sponsorship sales are down. This day works, although much of his team is starting over in a market that seems to have no patience for it. This is Opening Day, after all. This is the day the…

Pause the pier bickering and check out these facts

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Set aside the controversy. Ignore the referendum threats. Ignore the petition that’s probably already circulating, begging voters to take action against a city ignoring them. Ignore the rumors of behind-the-scenes wheeling and dealing. Put all that aside for just a few minutes and let’s look at what is factually happening with the pier. The list of designs is down to three. In alphabetic order they are Alma, Destination St. Pete Pier and Pier Park. Four others were voted out of…
