Magic still struggling on the defensive end

in Sports by

The Orlando Magic has lost three games in a row and five out of six. The latest was a highly disappointing 120-115 setback on Monday night at the hands of the Sacramento Kings, a team that had lost their previous eight games. Orlando has now lost 44 of their 68 games this season after being a competitive 15-18 in December. The calendar is now midway into March, and the last time the team won back-to-back games was around Christmas time.…

NBA figures turning up rhetoric on Donald Trump

in Sports by

It is safe to say President Donald Trump has a few detractors. Many of his supporters tend to keep their views to themselves, but those opposed to him, especially those in the entertainment world, often have a lot to say. Sports figures, including those aligned with the NBA, are beginning to share their views. Players such as LeBron James make no secret of their disdain for the 45th President. Some coaches and owners are joining the forum. Steve Kerr and…

Magic rally falls short against Cavaliers

in Sports/Top Headlines by

In the end, a loss is a loss. The Orlando Magic were beaten by the defending NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers 105-99 on Saturday night in Cleveland. But without question, Magic players, fans and coaches can feel better about this one over the other two to start the season. With 1:30 left in the third quarter, the Magic trailed by 20 points. LeBron James and Dustin Johnson flip the script

in Sports/Top Headlines by

One year ago LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers were the talk of the sports world for the wrong reasons. So was pro golfer Dustin Johnson. On Father’s Day, 2015 Johnson three-putted the 18th green and lost the U.S. Open title to Jordan Spieth. Today, James, the Cavs and Johnson are all “trending,” but this year they are happy about that.…

Here’s something you don’t hear very often — if you’re intending on attending tonight’s Tampa Bay Rays — San Francisco Giants game at Tropicana Field, you better already have a ticket. The team announced earlier this week that they would make all open seats for the game available for their annual Pride Night for just $5, with all the proceeds going to the Pulse Victims Fund. And the team announced yesterday that the game is sold-out, with “around 40,000” fans…

Record ratings likely on tap for NBA Finals

in Sports/Top Headlines by

For those who missed it, the Golden State Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder just completed an NBA playoff series for the ages. There was one highlight after another. TNT earned their highest rating for any program ever as the Warriors completed a rare comeback from a three-games-to-one deficit. Two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Stephen Curry is a big reason for the interest. Curry has the talent to turn curiosity into television viewers. When combined with an almost equally deadly…

Mitch Perry Report for 5.23.16 — Why is Mark Cuban being taken so seriously?

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Well, Mark Cuban looks pretty prescient this morning. The Dallas Mavericks owner told Chuck Todd on NBC’s Meet The Press yesterday that he thinks that the Oklahoma City Thunder will take the NBA title next month. The Thunder look pretty ascendant today after humiliating my Golden State Warriors last night in OKC, and now lead that series 2-1. The winner will likely face LeBron James and the very hungry Cleveland Cavaliers. So what was Cuban even doing on “MTP” anyway? Apparently being asked if…
