All St. Pete employees to be CPR certified

St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman announced Wednesday that all city employees will undergo training in CPR and become certified. “Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Americans,” Kriseman said. “Eighty percent of cardiac events happen in the home or similar private setting. If a citizen nearby knows CPR, chances for survival for a cardiac arrest victim can double or even triple. Two new laws added to state’s books

A new year brings two new laws to Florida’s statute books. Bills passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor often go into effect immediately or on July 1, the start of the state’s fiscal year. Some, however, go into effect the first day of the next calendar year. This year, only two measures meet that criteria.
