Meet Samantha Sexton, one of the ’30 under 30′ rising stars of Florida politics

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

Some kids want to go to Disney World. Samantha Sexton spent her summers visiting Revolutionary War and Civil War battle sites. The 26-year-old now is associate director of government relations for the PACE Center for Girls, a non-residential delinquency prevention program throughout Florida. Long before that, she was learning her American history, including “the importance of giving back to those who gave before us through volunteerism,” she says. Her parents also brought her along to hurricane relief efforts, coastal cleanups and holiday gift…

Former Rick Scott general counsel Pete Antonacci returns to lobbying

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

Pete Antonacci, former general counsel to Gov. Rick Scott, is back in the lobbying game just weeks after leaving the EOG. In a press release, GrayRobinson announced that Antonacci would be rejoining the firm where he worked from 2000 until 2012, when he was appointed to an opening as state attorney in Palm Beach County. Then, when that office was filled by Dave Aronberg in the November 2012 elections, Antonacci was tapped to head up Scott’s in-house legal team. “We are honored Pete chose to return to GrayRobinson,” said…

Has Pam Bondi recovered since her poor performance at Tiger Bay?

in Statewide by

Recently, I had the pleasure of running into state Sen. Dave Aronberg, whom I asked which GOP candidate would he rather face in the general: Holly Benson, Pam Bondi or Jeff Kottkamp.  Of course he didn’t take the bait and actually answer the question, but while we were talking I began to ask myself: Has Pam Bondi recovered yet from her poor performance at Suncoast Tiger Bay and the subsequent media coverage about her spotty voting record? Of course, I…

@Aronberg officially rolls out Ted Deutch endorsement

in Statewide by

Anyone else starting to notice that Dave Aronberg’s “Dear Friends” letters are setting the agenda for the Democratic nomination in the AG race. Aronberg’s latest missive officially rolls out the endorsement of “Friend of the Condo” U.S. Rep Ted Deutch: I am proud to announce that Congressman Ted Deutch has endorsed our campaign for Attorney General. “I served alongside Dave Aronberg in the Florida Senate for three years, and during that time I witnessed firsthand Dave’s commitment to fighting consumer…

Tampa Tribune endorses Dan Gelber and Pam Bondi in attorney general primary races

in Statewide/The Bay and the 'Burg by

The Tampa Tribune is the first (I think of the major newspapers) to offer an endorsement in any of the statewide races.  Not surprisingly, the newspaper backs Dan Gelber and Pam Bondi.  Not surprisingly because, in Gelber’s case, the traditional media just looovvveeesss them some DG.  Not that they shouldn’t, but I’ll be surprised if Dave Aronberg wins much support from the fourth estate.  In Bondi’s case, if her hometown paper didn’t back her, who the hell will?  Excerpts: On…

Notes from the Florida Democrats Jefferson-Jackson Dinner

in Statewide by

Joy Reid, last night’s recipient of the award for Best National blog, covered all of the angles at the Florida Democratic Party’s Jefferson-Jackson Dinner.  It’s coverage like this that helped her win her award.  Her notes: Kendrick Meek brought a cheering section … Gelber and Aronberg played nice … and Alex Sink’s mike went rogue. And a good time was had by all at this year’s Jefferson-Jackson dinner. The Democratic faithful gathered at the Westin Diplomat hotel in Hallandale Beach…

Saint Petersblog named Best Local Blog, winner of 3 other Netroots awards

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

Okay, so there are times when we say that we are grateful or humbled and we really don’t mean it.  Just watch any awards show and you’ll see what I am talking about; some movie star saying they are grateful for this or that, when you can see right into their eyes that they are thinking, “Now, I never have to kiss up to the director to get the part.” Occasionally, however, genuine gratitude and humility can be found.  Maybe…
