DNC seizes on Sun-Sentinel’s call for Marco Rubio to resign

in 2017/Top Headlines by

Without further editorial comment, the Democratic National Committee on Wednesday sent out a mass email statement that included the entire content of Wednesday morning’s South Florida Sun-Sentinel lead editorial, entitled, “Marco Rubio should resign, not rip us off.” It comes after Rubio has continued to make reactionary remarks when asked about his poor attendance record in the Senate this year. Rubio had missed 92 of the year’s 284 roll calls as of Tuesday morning, a 68 percent attendance rate. That’s worse…

Mitch Perry Report for 10.16.15 — On DWS, David Jolly and the COS

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Happy Friday, y’all. I want to draw your attention to two stories in the news this morning. The first is a Daily Beast piece by Tim Mak with the unfortunate title of, “Scientology could get its own senator,” referring to David Jolly. Jolly of course represents Clearwater in Congress, the “spiritual home” of the Church of Scientology (COS). While the title of the story is a bit absurd,  the content of the story is accurate in referring to a couple of events that…

Video shows Marco Rubio wasn’t always so nonchalant about missing votes

in 2017/Top Headlines by

In the past, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio had harsh words for fellow senators who failed to appear for important votes. “Why do you get paid to be here, then, if you’re not going to vote on anything?” he once asked. However, since mounting his own bid for the White House, the Miami Republican might be changing his tune. A new Factivists video – produced by the Democratic National Committee – spotlights the irony of Rubio’s words, in light of the…

Mitch Perry Report for 9.24.15 — Will the RPOF gamble on having a meaningful primary election?

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

There’s no question that over the past two decades that Florida has become one of the biggest swing states in the nation, a status that can ultimately determine who our next president is. It may not be the swing state (arguably you could call Ohio the ultimate swing state), but it’s crucially important, especially for the Republican Party. Like political junkies everywhere not living in Iowa or New Hampshire (or in more recent years, Nevada and South Carolina), party officials grew weary that when the presidential…

DNC creates JebSwagStore.com

in 2017/Top Headlines by

Hours after Jeb Bush launched his campaign store on Wednesday (complete with a $75 guacamole bowl), the Democratic National Committee came up with a two-fer today to jump in on the fun. Seizing on the opportunity to mock some recent faux pas the Republican candidate has uttered on the campaign trail, the DNC has come up with a mock website called  JebSwagStore.com. Among the items on the site include: Right to Rise Step Stool, where, “Every American has the Right to Rise…

Debbie Wasserman Schultz calls Jeb Bush comments on phasing out Medicare a ‘massive blunder’

in 2017/Top Headlines by

Democrats such as DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz are seizing on comments that Jeb Bush made Wednesday night regarding Medicare. Speaking at an Americans for Prosperity event in New Hampshire, Bush said brought up the government-run healthcare program for seniors by first blasting television ads back in 2012 featuring a Paul Ryan-look-a-like pushing an elderly person off the cliff in a wheelchair. That ad was in reference to the Ryan budget that called for phasing Medicare out and instead make it into…

Mitch Perry Report for 7.10.15 — A whole lotta political stuff

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

It was just an average Thursday in the Florida political world. But first a note about Jeb Bush, who announced that through his own campaign and his Super PAC Right to Rise, has raised a total of $114 million this year, with all but $11 million coming from Right to Rise, which began fundraising for the “non-candidate” back in mid-December. You remember the $100 million figure was broadcast months ago as part of the “Shock and Awe” phase of the…
