Clearwater Marine Aquarium moves forward with expansion plans

Much to the dismay of neighbors, the Clearwater Marine Aquarium is moving forward with plans to expand its popular tourist attraction home to the famous Winter the Dolphin. Amid growing attendance and increasing parking issues, the Community Development Board approved a $45 million expansion plan this week. Clearwater Mayor George Cretekos and City Council member Doreen Hock DiPolito will both serve second terms. Clearwater Marine Aquarium expansion plans coming soon

The Clearwater Marine Aquarium is planning to stay exactly where it is. A previous plan to move into a larger facility in downtown Clearwater was abandoned because it would have taken too long. During Thursday’s visit to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, home of Winter the Dolphin, Gov. Rick Scott took an opportunity to highlight Florida tourism, the state’s largest industry.
