5 things I think about today’s St. Petersburg Times

First question: Ernest, are we gonna re-schedule? — She’s baaaccckkk.  Saint Petersblog nemesis Cristina Silva has returned from a four-month stint in Tallahassee.  The former City Hall reporter tweeted yesterday: @cristymsilva: back in St. Petersburg after nearly four months. What did I miss? Silva actually has an interesting PolitiFact piece answering the important question of whether that’s Barack Obama in the Whoomp! video. Because all black people look alike to the Tea Party racists who first concocted this rumor. Talk about getting…

Troxler’s back and, man, did I miss him.  For most of his column, Trox lays the wood to Bill McCollum, but he also takes time to criticize Kendrick Meek and the scandal engulfing his campaign: When it comes to Rentboy.com vs. a Cadillac Escalade, I’m goin’ with Rentboy as the lead story — and yet, who cannot admire the stink surrounding U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, the leading Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate? Of course, the scandal is its own…

It’s not that I don’t like Ernest Hooper it’s just that I wish he knew what he was talking about when he writes about Florida politics.  Consider this airball: The media frenzy surrounding Gov. Charlie Crist’s independent bid for the U.S. Senate threatens to draw attention away from the governor’s race, but it’s no less important. Threatens to draw attention away from the governor’s race? Threatens? The race for the US Senate long ago sucked the oxygen out of the…

So a mid-level editor (with whom I am friendly) at the Times called and e-mailed me yesterday to “warn” me that my criticism of assistant metro editor Sandra Gadsden did not go unnoticed.  Add this criticism to my recent “outing” of Times food critic Laura Reiley’s decision to take a leave of absence and, he said, I may be tempting fate again.  Meaning the Times may want to write something about me just to take me down a notch.  The…
