At economic lunch, Bob Buckhorn blasts ‘Koch Brothers led ideology’ in Tallahassee

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Bob Buckhorn announced last month that he won’t run for governor next year, saying it wasn’t worth separating himself from his family over the next couple of years. It’s certainly not for lack of how he would run his campaign, based on remarks he made on Monday in Tampa. Appearing with St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman, the two mayors of the Tampa Bay area’s two largest cities took turns bashing the state Legislature at the Florida Economic Forum Luncheon. Hundreds of local…

5 things I think about today’s St. Petersburg Times (6/28)

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

I’m not the only blog-reporter upset with the St. Petersburg Times and the way it interacts with the online community.  Last week, I shared a drink at St. Pete Brasserie with Elizabeth Dougherty of Eat St. Pete and Brian Bailey of I Love the ‘burg.  Both talked about something I have complained about for over a year: The Times‘ blatant thievery of scoops and stories that begin in the blogosphere. Dougherty specifically mentioned how the Times’ food writers made no…

5 things I think about today’s St. Petersburg Times

I was ghastly ill over the weekend (why do I always get sick in May?), so today’s edition is a blend of commentary from Sunday and Monday’s editions of the St. Petersburg Times. As always, the best read on Monday comes via Tom Jones and his “Shooting from the lip” column.  A full page of insight into the world of sports that you didn’t already know from watching ESPN. Worst read is, as usual, Ernest Hooper’s banal column. Speaking of…
