Report: More boating accidents despite drop in fatalities

A report shows the number of boating accidents in Florida sharply increased in 2015 over 2014, despite there being a 25 percent decrease in fatalities. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says in a statement Wednesday that the 2015 Boating Accident Statistical Report reveals the state had 737 boating accidents last year. Officials say a bloom of Florida red tide remained over the weekend along Tampa Bay-area beaches, killing fish and causing respiratory irritation in swimmers. Senate recommends $3.6 billion for environmental agencies in 2016-17 budget

Florida environmental agencies will have about $3.6 billion to spend in the 2016-2017 fiscal year, based on recommendations from the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government. Put together by Umatilla Republican Sen. Alan Hays, the committee released its budget recommendations Thursday, reports LobbyTools.
