in Top Headlines by

The Senate Appropriations Committee quickly moved a healthcare train with little-to-no debate. Both bills were developed by the House Health Innovation Subcommittee. The underlying bill, CS/CS/SB 532, is filed by state Sen. Denise Grimsley and it allows advanced registered nurse practitioners to order medications for patients in hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, or mobile surgical…

According to recently released donation figures from the Florida Division of Elections, incumbent lawmakers were by far…

Momma bears. It’s taking the momma bears to end the reefer madness. Paige Figi, Holley Moseley and Dawn Wein are among a group of women who worked the Florida Capitol the past year persuading, pressuring and pleading with lawmakers to lift a prohibition on medical marijuana and authorize the use of cannabis products they say will ease their children’s suffering and, in some cases, potentially save lives. When they showed up at the Capitol it was to put an exclamation point on the generation-long…

At times the debate teetered on testy. “Where i grew up the kids played doctor,” said state Rep. “Doc” Renuart, who opposed the…

Will House panel OK a bill allowing advanced RNs to practice without MDs’ oversight?

At its last scheduled meeting of the year, the House Health Innovation Subcommittee will consider a bill to allow advanced registered nurse practitioners to practice independently from physicians. Sponsored by physician and state Rep. Cary Pigman, HB 547 was temporarily deferred at the panel’s meeting last week when it appeared that it was going to fail. The committee will tackle the bill again today when it meets at 9 a.m. It is the only bill on the agenda. Today’s vote is…
