Florida State running back Dalvin Cook has announced he will enter the NFL draft, less than 24 hours after the Seminoles defeated Michigan in the Orange Bowl. Cook, who is expected to be a first-round pick, made the announcement Saturday via video on Instagram. He says he made the decision after much consideration but was doing it after discussions with his family. The Miami native wrapped up his collegiate career by being named Orange Bowl MVP after rushing for 145…

FSU’s DeMarcus Walker expects old school, physical game vs. Michigan

in Sports/Top Headlines by

Florida State’s DeMarcus Walker has prepared for plenty of different offensive schemes during his four years in Tallahassee, but facing Michigan in the Orange Bowl is one that has piqued his interest the most. “It is going to be an old school game — Dick Butkus, Jack Lambert type of football,” said Walker on Friday after the 10th-ranked Seminoles completed another practice in preparation for the Dec. 30 game. “You see a lot of spread and zone read from different…

FAU puts its money where its priorities are

in Apolitical/Top Headlines by

In 1962, a legislative “initial operating money” appropriation plus private donations for “architect fees, salaries and other expenses” added up to $400,000 in seed corn for Florida Atlantic University. It still adds up to more money than most working folks will see in 10 years, but it’s less than half of what the school will pay its new head football coach, Lane Kiffin (rhymes with “What is FAU sniffn’?). in Sports by

Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher says he would rather be talked about than not, even if it is about his coaching future. Fisher was frequently asked about his interest in LSU the past two months after Les Miles was fired. Those questions were put to rest Saturday after Ed Orgeron had the interim title removed. This has been the second straight season Fisher’s name has been mentioned about openings. He doesn’t think it will be the last.  “When you’re successful, people…

in 2017 by

Late on the afternoon of Oct. 8, 1966, the Florida State University football team was trailing its archrival, the University of Florida, 19 to 22. With 26 seconds remaining, FSU quarterback Gary Pajcic threw a 45-yard pass to the visitors’ end zone. Lane Fenner, a wide receiver fresh off the bench, had outraced two Florida defenders and the nearest official. Newspaper photographs clearly showed Fenner scoring the game-winning touchdown, clutching the ball with one knee on the turf a yard…

ACC teams on a roll vs. SEC in state rivalry showdowns

in Sports by

Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson wants to see the ACC continue its two-year run of dominance in state rivalry games against teams from the SEC. Atlantic Coast Conference teams are 7-1 against Southeastern Conference teams from the same state the last two years. That includes a 4-0 sweep in 2014 of the state rivalries that will be renewed on Saturday: Clemson-South Carolina, Louisville-Kentucky, Georgia Tech-Georgia and Florida State-Florida. “Best of luck to all those guys competing against the SEC,” Watson said…
