USF Bulls’ football crowds grew by 41 percent in 2016

in Sports/Top Headlines by

For the USF Bulls, there were a lot more things worth seeing in 2016. And a lot more fans came to see them. The Bulls were third in the nation in their increase of attendance, which jumped by 10,971 fans (41 percent) in an 11-win season that also featured a home game against FSU. Only Eastern Michigan, North Texas and Georgia State had bigger increases. It’s easy to see why the Bulls drew so many more fans (their best draw…

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

Once again, the dazzling offense of the South Florida Bulls was just good enough to offset the team’s dismal defense. The Bulls won their school record 11th game Thursday, beating South Carolina 46-39 in overtime. USF led comfortably for most of the game, but a furious rally by the Gamecocks forced overtime. South Carolina scored the game’s final 18 points to tie the game. Quinton Flowers, however, threw his second touchdown pass in overtime when he scrambled to buy time,…

USF can prove it still has its edge against South Carolina in bowl

That leaves the Bulls playing against SEC opponent South Carolina, where head coach Will Muschamp is respected for his defensive prowess. Instead of Taggart, the team will play under interim coach T.J. Weist. USF will still have offensive firepower with quarterback…

USF pulls away from UCF to win their annual rivalry game

in Sports by

When the record 10th game had been won, when Willie Taggart was drenched in Gatorade, the only thing USF had left to say to UCF was this: Well, we told you. The Bulls won Saturday the way they have won all season long. They played hold-your-breath offense. They played hold-on-for-dear-life defense. And, in the end, they held on for a 48-31 victory over the UCF Knights for their school-record 10th win. USF piled up 503 yards on offense to pull…

Can UCF stop Quinton Flowers and other USF-UCF questions

in Sports/Top Headlines by

Five questions to ponder about the USF-UCF game: Can freshman McKenzie Milton play well enough to keep up with the Bulls? Doesn’t everyone? As marvelous as USF’s offense has been all season, their defense has struggled. The Bulls are ranked No. 120 (out of 128) teams at stopping their opponent this year. Yes, they’ve made game-saving plays the last two weeks against Memphis and SMU, but don’t confuse that with solid defense. USF is tied for 85th in scoring defesne.…
