Could the Bucs still be a destination for runner Adrian Peterson?

in Sports/Top Headlines by

Are the Tampa Bay Bucs done with reeling in big names to help their offense? Maybe not. Speculation has returned to the Bucs after quarterback Jameis Winston worked out in Houston recently with former Minnesota Vikings’ great Adrian Peterson. The Bucs were linked with Peterson early in free agency, but due to his age (32), his injured knee and probably his price tag, things never materialized. Peterson remains a free agent. I’ve seen Adrian Peterson many times — one of…

The Tampa Bay Bucs added safety J.J. Wilcox to their free agent signings Saturday. Wilcox, 26, is a former third-round draft pick of the Dallas Cowboys who should compete for former safety Bradley McDougald’s old job. He has started 38-of-58 regular season games played for the Cowboys over the past four seasons (2013-16), totaling 196 tackles, 15 passes defensed, five interceptions, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.  A native of Cairo, Georgia, Wilcox played collegiately at Georgia Southern. Should Tampa Bay Bucs be interested in Adrian Peterson?

in Sports/Top Headlines by

When it comes to the next destination for free agent Adrian Peterson, the Tampa Bay Bucs look like a possible place to run toward. But should they be? Peterson, who has rushed for almost 12,000 yards in his career running for the Minnesota Vikings, certainly has the name for the job. He has seven 1,000 yard seasons. He has scored 97 touchdowns. He is, arguably, the best running back of his generation. Still, there are warning signs to Peterson. He’ll turn…

Rays add Colby Rasmus to their outfield, need bullpen help

in Sports/Top Headlines by

The Tampa Bay Rays may have to tweak their starting rotation. Obviously, the bullpen needs work. As far as the regular lineup, however, the Rays have gotten better this off-season with the addition of Colby Rasmus and catcher Wilson Ramos. Whether they have done enough remains to be seen, but it’s a start toward fixing last year’s 68-94 record, the only non-winning team in the AL East. Rasmus has had four 20-home run seasons and is thought of as an excellent…

The Tampa Bay Rays will have a new catcher in their lineup … eventually. The Rays formally announced the signing of Wilson Ramos, the former catcher of the Washington Nationals. The Rays signed him as a free agent for a two-year contract worth $12.5 million. Ramos can earn another $5.75 million through incentives. It may take some time for Tampa Bay to see what it has in Ramos. Ramos suffered a ACL in his right knee near the end of last…

It has been the world’s longest negotiation, but things may be coming to a head between the Tampa Bay Lightning and center Steven Stamkos. Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman told the Tampa Bay Times he hopes to have some clarity on Stamkos by the weekend. “We’re doing all we can to sign him,” Yzerman said. “What we look like if Stammer re-signs with us, it affects what we can do with our team. For us, we’d like to know sooner…

Tampa Bay Bucs sign punter Bryan Anger as latest free agent

in Sports/Top Headlines by

The Tampa Bay Bucs have signed a weapon they hope to use as little as possible in the upcoming season. The Bucs signed punter Bryan Anger from the Jacksonville Jaguars. Anger (6-3, 205) originally entered the league as a third-round pick (70th overall) of the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2012 NFL Draft. Anger spent his first four seasons (2012-15) with Jacksonville, playing in all 64 games, punting 360 times for 16,855 yards (46.8 avg.), with 113 punts inside the 20.…
