in Apolitical/Top Headlines by

Hillary Clinton is the most-admired woman in the world for the 20th time, according to a recent Gallup poll. Clinton was mentioned as the most-admired woman by 13 percent of respondents. The figure may seem low, but Clinton’s closest rival was Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teen world renowned for her advocacy for childhood education. Yousafzai is also the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. She earned just 5 percent of mentions in the Gallup poll. Talk show star Oprah…

Mitch Perry Report for 8.19.15 — Fun with Donald Trump’s immigration plans

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

All summer, we’ve heard blowhards like Joe Scarborough inform the supposedly stuffy talking heads that they just don’t get it about the phenomenon that is Donald Trump. He likes to remind viewers that his brother, an alleged sophisticated Republican voter, really loves the Donald, and thus that explains why roughly 25 percent of Republican voters say they like him too in most polls. And he says that the message is a potent one. Yes, perhaps to as much as a…

Mitch Perry Report for 5.27.15 — Immigration and the GOP

On immigration, they all read from the same script as well.  The first words from nearly all of them is “border security.” Even Jeb Bush and Lindsey Graham, who are notably…

Mitch Perry Report for 4.27.15 — Bruce Jenner’s journey

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

A really unusual thing happened this weekend — ABC’s much hyped interview with Bruce Jenner wasn’t terrible. If fact, it was riveting, as the former Olympic hero acknowledged what has hardly been a secret over the past year or so –- he’s transitioning to becoming a female. “My whole life has prepared me for this moment,” Jenner said, adding that he was apprehensive to come out because he didn’t want to “disappoint” people. It was extraordinary, non-exploitive television, as Jenner…

Gallup: Favorability for both major political parties continues to dip

in Top Headlines by

For the first time since they began tracking political party favorability, a Gallup Poll shows fewer than 40 percent of voters view either party favorably. That means more than 60 percent view the parties as unfavorable. It’s just a touch worse for Republicans. Only 37 percent of people polled view them as favorable. Two percent more view Democrats as favorable. Despite the slight advantage in numbers for Democrats, the poll doesn’t show much good for either party. Democrats are lingering at…

Fresh Gallup poll — Hillary Clinton: Best known, and still best liked

in Top Headlines by

According to a new poll (taken just as the controversy about her private email account was breaking), Hillary Clinton remains one of the few 2016 presidential candidates to have a significantly higher favorable (50 percent) than unfavorable (39 percent) rating among the American public. And 89 percent have enough knowledge of her to form an opinion, by far the most of any person who is contemplating a run for the White House next year. However, it should be noted that…
