The second national poll of the GOP presidential race in three days once again shows Jeb Bush on top, with Donald Trump nipping at his heels. But a deeper look shows Bush is in much better shape moving forward. The Monmouth University Poll released Monday afternoon shows Bush at 15 percent, Trump at 13 percent, and Texas U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz at 9 percent. The next group of candidates includes Scott Walker (7 percent) – who is formally announcing his candidacy tonight – Mike Huckabee (7…

Welcome to Tuesday, June 30th — also known as the last day you’ll be receiving annoying fundraising emails for… at least a few more days. Yes, it’s the end of the fiscal second quarter, and candidates are flooding email boxes of those even marginally involved in politics to an all-time annoying level. Meanwhile, Chris Christie is choosing this day to do what his entire political career has led to — running for the highest office in the land. #TellingItLikeItIs is…

I couldn’t be happier this morning, after staying up until midnight last night to see my lifelong basketball team, the Golden State Warriors, defeat the Houston Rockets,  and advance to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1975. Of course, there’s a guy by the name of LeBron James who stands in their way of actually capturing the Finals, which should make for irresistible entertainment. LeBron returned home to Cleveland last summer, and that city hasn’t won a championship…

in 2017/Top Headlines by

Only 5 percent of likely Republican voters tell pollsters for the New Hampshire Survey Center that they have definitely decided on their candidate of choice. Seventeen percent are leaning toward a candidate, and 78…

There are a number of Republicans who are “testing the waters” regarding a potential run for the presidency in 2016, and some of them are in New Hampshire this weekend. That would include South Carolina U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton, and George Pataki, the former three-term governor of New York (1994-2006), who was making his eighth trip to New Hampshire since September. Speaking at the First in the Nation Republican Leadership Summit in…

in 2017/Top Headlines by

A new poll published by Public Policy Polling shows Florida Republicans Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio need to do a lot of work to become competitive in New Hampshire, the site of the first Republican Presidential Primary election next January. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is looking very strong, leading with 24 percent support. That’s 10 percentage points higher than the second-place Republican, Texas U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz. And what’s most impressive is that Walker was only at 3 percent when PPP surveyed New…

Monmouth University poll shows wide-open 2016 GOP field, with Jeb Bush on top

in 2017/Top Headlines by

The big news in presidential politics today is Rand Paul’s official entry into the presidential campaign, making him only the second Republican to formally enter the contest, joining Ted Cruz. Marco Rubio is scheduled to join them next week by announcing his candidacy in Miami. At the same time a new poll published by Monmouth University in New Jersey shows that there is hardly a consensus favorite this early out for the 2016 race. Florida Gov. Jeb Bush leads at 13 percent. He’s followed…
