The two Ricks slug it out in first debate of St. Pete mayoral race

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Former Mayor Rick Baker and incumbent Rick Kriseman took plenty of verbal shots at each other during the first debate of the 2017 St. Pete mayoral race. Although seven mayoral candidates are on the ballot, only Baker and Kriseman could participate at the forum hosted by Midtown’s Mt. Zion Progressive Missionary Baptist Church. Kriseman began the evening by reciting the main theme of his campaign: A choice between whether St. Petersburg residents want to go forward, or look backward in a bid…

No paperwork required when Go Davis goes on vacation

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

In economic times like these many of us may have forgotten what it’s actually like to go on vacation, but if you think hard enough you may remember.  You may even remember how hectic it is leading up to when you actually leave for vacation.  The time before a few days off are often filled with moments of racing around to get everything done before you leave. Of course, there is probably some paperwork you had to fill out before…

Go Davis is, um, on vacation. Riiiggghhhttt

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

After three days of not showing up for meetings, including a meeting scheduled for Wednesday with a member of the St. Petersburg City Council, the (un)official word from Deputy Mayor Tish Elston is that Go Davis is on vacation. At least that is what she told a television reporter yesterday. Of course, Ms. Elston did not return my call.  Maybe because she’s tired of making excuses for Davis’ erratic behavior. Rumors and questions are swirling as the number of…

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

But that is beside the point: was Go Davis really coming back…

Judge for yourself: Watch the full video of Goliath Davis being stopped for suspicion of DUI

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

With the full cooperation of the Gulfport Police department, I was able to track down the entire dashcam video from December 15, 2009, when Go Davis was pulled over for suspicion of DUI. This is the video the St. Petersburg Times is not showing you.

We’re waiting, Mayor Foster…

in Uncategorized by

I know, I know, it’s only been two weeks since Bill Foster was inaugurated as only the third strong Mayor in St. Petersburg’s history, but isn’t it time for him to announce some sort of bold staffing decision or policy initiative? Foster has actually been the defacto leader of St. Petersburg since he won the Mayoral election in November. Since that time, Foster has done little to establish a tone for his administration. His inaugural speech, for those few outside…
