Falcons, Matt Ryan run away from Green Bay to reach Super Bowl

in Sports/Top Headlines by

It was billed as a potential shootout. In the end, however, the Atlanta Falcons had most of the weapons. The Falcons, 6-4 at one point this season, blew out the streaking Green Bay Packers Sunday night, winning a runaway 44-21 game. The Falcons, who have never won a Super Bowl (and who have played in only one), will play in two weeks against either New England or Pittsburgh. Defense wins championships? Not necessarily in the NFL

in Sports/Top Headlines by

We’ve all heard the adage: defense wins championships. In the NFL, that doesn’t necessarily apply. Of course, it still helps – a lot, actually – to have a stout group on that side of the line. The National Football League concluded its third and most interesting weekend of pre-season games last night, and while there are stories galore about what’s happening on the gridiron (Denver sacking Mark Sanchez, Tony Romo out for a few months with another injury, Jameis Winston looking quite impressive with the Tampa Bay Bucs against the lowly Cleveland Browns), the big story was out of Santa Clara, where 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick refused to stand for the national anthem before their game against Green Bay on Friday night, the third…
