Florida GOP operative, blogger teams up with Guccifer 2.0 for hacking dump

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

Political hacking wasn’t limited to just the Democratic National Committee in 2016; Florida was also part of the act. Last year, a Republican political operative and part-time blogger from Florida asked for and received an extensive list of stolen data from Guccifer 2.0, the infamous hacker known for leaking documents from the DNC computer network. The Wall Street Journal reported that Aaron Nevins, a former aide to Republican state Sen. Ellyn Bogdanoff, had reached out to Guccifer through Twitter, asking…

in 2017/Top Headlines by

Republican strategist Roger Stone said Thursday that jurors may think he’s “the devil” but he still expects to beat a defamation lawsuit accusing him of circulating a mailer calling a political candidate a sexual predator. The civil trial in New York was set to start Thursday but was postponed until at least August. Stone, a longtime Donald Trump adviser who cut his teeth in politics playing tricks on opponents of President Richard Nixon, said he looks forward to testifying —…

Longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone says a car he was riding in this week in Florida was struck by a hit-and-run driver. In a statement to The Associated Press, Stone described the incident as “suspicious,” coming as he is under scrutiny for his communication with the Russian-linked hacker Guccifer 2.0. Mitch Perry Report for 12.14.16 – Fun with Guccifer 2.0

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Over the summer, a hacker who went by the nom de guerre of Guccifer 2.0 began distributing internal documents from the Democratic National Committee to a variety of reporters and bloggers here in Florida. I was one of those recipients. I bring that up this morning because of the story in Wednesday’s NY Times , which revisits the issue, and highlights the document dumps in the CD 26 Democratic primary between Annette Taddeo and Joe Garcia. And it reviews the correspondence between Guccifer 2.0 and a blogger who…

Mitch Perry Report for 8.16.16 – Do Trump politics go on, even if he doesn’t?

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Donald Trump‘s chances of becoming president seem to dim by the day. While there’s still plenty of time for him to comeback and defeat Hillary Clinton in the fall, the odds diminish daily. But while conventional wisdom has it that Trump is one-off political phenomenon, buttressed by his money and celebrity, what about the millions who support his message. Where does that movement go? A lot of it would go towards supporting a protectionist, xenophobic party, according to George Mason…

Files posted Monday by hacker group Guccifer 2.0 include internal documents from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) on congressional races in Florida. They explicitly contain “campaign overviews” and “paths to victory” in Congressional Districts 7, 10, 13, 18 and 26. The document related to the Pinellas County’s 13th Congressional District race is dated from April when Eric Lynn was still running against Charlie Crist for the Democratic nomination. Lynn has since dropped out of the race and is now running for a…

Blake Dowling: Consumers can avoid feeling the ‘email Bern’ by hackers

in 2017/Top Headlines by

Debbie Wasserman Schultz got to “Feel the Bern” in the form of a hostile crowd of Florida delegates at the Democratic National Committee. Why were these Bern Victims so fired up? The email scandal of course, which led to Schultz’s resignation. The pro-Clinton digital documentation that was revealed in this breach and scandal is a mess. There are several old school rules of thumb that my grandparent’s used to use which were “make sure to get it in writing” and…
