5 things I think about today’s St. Petersburg Times

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

“Who is Sandra Gadsden?” was the invariable response I received last evening from each person I asked if they knew who Sandra Gadsden is. I was at a fundraising reception chock full of political operatives and their handsome wives.  Each of these people recognized the names of  Adam Smith or Aaron Sharockman or David DeCamp.  Some even recognized John Frank’s name.  But not one person — and this is a room full of people who make St. Petersburg move –…

Was Go Davis really coming from the hospital on the night he was stopped for suspicion of DUI?

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

On December 15, 2009,  just before two o’clock in the morning, City of St. Petersburg Deputy Mayor Goliath Davis was stopped for suspicion of DUI.  During the stop, Davis told the police officer who had pulled him over that he did not have his driver’s license because he had just returned from the hospital — as if going to the hospital excuses one from carrying their driver’s license. But that is beside the point: was Go Davis really coming back…

Winners and Losers from Pinellas’ elections

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

Today’s city commissioner is tomorrow’s state legislator. And today’s state legislator is tomorrow’s congressional candidate. Or so I’ve always thought and that’s why I always pay attention to the results of even the smallest town’s municipal elections. Tomorrow is Election Day tomorrow in Pinellas. Check back often with Saint Petersblog for updates, photos and results from interesting races in Clearwater, Gulfport, Oldsmar and Tarpon Springs. Here’s are the story lines I’ll be following: Can an African-American candidate win in Tarpon Springs? City Commissioner David Archie is facing off against my friend Matt King to replace Beverly Biliris as the next Mayor of the City of Sponges. And while there have been plenty issues discussed on the campaign…

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

From Jen Salmon, candidate for the Ward 3 seat on the Gulfport City Council: Thank you for taking the time to learn about your candidates and to cast your vote for the person you believe will represent the issues that matter to you and do the best job on City Council.
